I just wanted to do this (only once) on one of my blogs.

BS or MS, that is the question

Posted in CMC-F08 on December 9, 2008 by albrightja

I was thinking about after I finish my BA in ATECH, to get a BS in CS here at UTD. The I had a good friend advise me to just go for a masters in CS, it is not a lot more work but is a loot more valuable. I was also advised to get the MS at a different college than the BA. Sounds like a good plan to me. As long as my work will pay for college it only makes sense, to me at least, to continue going to college. Also I am enjoying not having to legally move to GVL because it is a temporary residence as I am a student. IDK that is a whole different debate why I don’t want to move to GVL as I don’t like the city.

Heroes

Posted in CMC-F08 on December 9, 2008 by albrightja

Ok so believe it or not all season I have not been watching Heroes the TV series. I have however been TiVoing it. That is a verb right? So this past weekend I watched the entire season straight through. Over the last few months I have been hearing people complain that there are too many new heroes but it is really not that ban when you watch them straight through. I was to busy when the series started up so I did not watch it. Now that a can pretend to have free time it is actually quite enjoyable. BTW did anybody ever watch the old tv series by the name of Nash Bridges. I know a tad random but IDK.

kill the poinsettias

Posted in CMC-F08 on December 9, 2008 by albrightja

As I have my house to my self I am lazy and not decorating up for the Christmas season. No I am not scrooge but rather because I have no one to share the joy of the decorations with I figure It is not worth the effort. I will however enjoy the decorations at my family’s house in Fort Worth. The tree there looks great. Because my cousins were giving me a hard time about this I figured I would compromise. I bought a couple of poinsettias. They are pretty and all. The true question is how soon I will kill them. I am leaving for more than a week soon for my trip and they will this not get water. They will die, how sad. I will just have to buy more.

Ski Boots

Posted in CMC-F08 on December 9, 2008 by albrightja

Ya know, I have not had the best history with ski boots. My first trip I rented a pair, they were miserable. So I went to CD sports and bought a pair. I wore them for the next 4 ski trips but they have still always given my trouble. Just pain and more pain. CD sports sold be crap boots, expensive crap boots. For this trip, now that I have a good job, I wanted to go buy myself a good pair of boots. I know it is possible because my last ski trip when I was not planning to ski, long story, I rented a pair and they were great. They made me want to buy a pair so that is just what I set out to do. I figure that this time I will not buy them at the same place as they have already done me bad once. I figure I will go try out the new sun and ski store in N Dallas and see what they have to offer. I got some 14 yr old kid who had no clue what he was doing but did find a pair that was comfortable they were a tad expensive so I figured I would get a second opinion. After class that day I went to the Warming Hut. A small mom and pop ski shop in south Richardson. This was the best decision I made. They were great and custom fit a pair of boots to my feet. Asking where I feel pressure and then altering the boot as needed. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for anything related to skiing. Their prices were also really reasonable. Thanks a loot Warming hut for your great service. Does anyone want to buy my old ski boots?

Ski Trip

Posted in CMC-F08 on December 9, 2008 by albrightja

I am going skiing. Yeah. I will be gone for nearly a whole week. I think this is the longest skit rip I have taken. I am looking forward to it. It should be fun. I think the first day we will just acclimate to the altitude and maybe just ski a little. The second day I want to take an advanced lesson to learn a few more techniques. After that it is all fun just fun. Maybe take a day just to read and relax. I am working extra to totally empty my plate now before so that when I am up there there is noting on my mind but relaxing. The cool air, nice resorts, no dirty dishes. I should enjoy it. It will be a good predecessor to the Christmas season. No if I can just survive the company of my family.

Broken TiVo

Posted in CMC-F08 on December 9, 2008 by albrightja

My TiVo is broken. I don’t know why. I don’t know how. It is old but is should last forever right? It makes me sad. Now I have to buy a new one. But they don’t make the one I like any longer. Mine has a DVD player built in to the TiVo, none of the new ones do. I could buy a HD TiVo but my money tree is not all that big and I don’t know if I can justify the expense. I could get a tivo wanna be but I am rather fond of my TiVo. What I need is a sale on TiVos. TiVo is one of those things nobody thinks they need but after you try it you cant live without it. I never watch live tv anymore. I watch what I want when I want where I want. It even auto transfers to my iPod without my help. I wonder if I can fix my tivo. Any Ideas.

End of semester

Posted in CMC-F08 on December 9, 2008 by albrightja

How nice, the semester is finially over. This was just a weird semester. I think I caught a bit of senioritis. It is my 11th semester. Wow that is a scary thought, I have never put it that way before. And to think I have two more. Spring and summer. The advisor gave me the choice of walking at graduation this spring or next fall. I have not decided which I prefer but I should probably make a choice. Hopefully the presentation I gave at last class came off ok. I have given plenty of presentations but have never seriously played devils advocate arguing for something I disagree with myself but argue it for the fun of making things difficult. Yes cheating is wrong but what is more fun/challenging than arguing a case that you disagree with and then selling your point. O well enough of my solo diatribe.

end of semester thoughts

Posted in CMC-F08 on November 21, 2008 by albrightja

Wow, School is almost over.  Yeah.  One of my classes in complete and other two only have one more meeting. Yes I know we have two more CMC classes but I might be in DC for the class on the 2nd.  This semester has been fast and yes each semester is faster than the previous.  After today I only have to drive to UTD once more this semester and I will be done.  If I play my cards right I only have one more semester left.  Ok so has anybody else had this mental dilemma?  Ok, so for so far in life we go from preK to Elementarily School, Middle School to High School, and now College, but what is after that.  It is the end of the formal structured learning structure.  What is next…

New Bond results

Posted in CMC-F08 on November 16, 2008 by albrightja

Ok, so I went to the new Bond on its opening night at the UA theater in N Dallas, the one with the largest screen in Texas.  I was surprised at how small the crowd was for the movie. When I went to go see the new batman on opening night it was cram packed SRO.  For the new bond, they had 2 theaters capable of holding 670 people each.  For the one I was in I would say that there were only about 80 people there.  To think I even went to go buy tickets ahead of time getting stuck in rush hour, what a mistake.  The movie was a traditional bond movie with all of its usual components, car chase, foot chase, boat chase I think, plane chase, enough explosions and gun fire.  The story was a little week in my opinion fighting over water and all but I guess that is a valuable commodity in today’s world. I did enjoy a few things about the experience beside the movie itself.  First I got to compare DLP with film side by side.  I have traditionally been an advocate of DLP being digital and all, thinking it is higher quality.  Traditionally I still like DLP better as it does not get dirty but here on this big screen there was a stark difference between the two.  We watched the same preview in DLP and film.  The DLP was good but in high motion sequences involving brighter colors it would just fall apart in my opinion.  However the Film looked great.  That said I had better than 20/20 vision and I make movies for a living and I was this hyper sensitive to the subtleties of its composition.  I did have an epiphany during one of the advertisements that I will use on one of my next woks.   Now call me a nerd but my favorite part of the whole evening was a particular preview, the one that starts with a youth riding on a motorcycle getting in trouble with an official.  You will know what I am talking about when you see it.  I could tell you, but this is more fun. It was questionable if it was worth the drive to that good theater but I still greatly enjoyed the whole evening.
